Herbrium Material Required

Protea Atlas LogoPr subulifolia Awl-leaf Rodent Protea

Dr John Rourke would like herbarium material of the Pr subu observed on the south-west face of Bloupunt (see PAN 12: ). He suggests that the species might possibly also be Pr decurrens XX, which may be distinguished from Pr subulifolia by its ridged bark just below where the leaves join the stem and the leaf with a flat blade (not needle-like). This would be an extension in the distribution of XX by about 10 km.

If you intend walking Bloupunt, please phone Leanne and she will liaise with the Chief Director of Nature and Environmental Conservation to obtain a permit for you. The specimen should consist of a branch containing a few heads. Collecting would be best about September when the plants should be in flower. The plants can be stored in a plastic bag for the walk and should be pressed between blotting paper that evening.
