IDM Cape Peninsula - Common Sunshine Conebush - Leucadendron salignum

A solid black dot indicates where the species is found.

Leucadendron salignum - Common Sunshine Conebush is the only multi-stemmed Conebush with silvery (hairy!) cones on the Peninsula.

Ld sgnm is the most widespread and common member of the Protea Family in the Cape. On the Peninsula it plays second fiddle to the Sickle-leaf Conebush. Some 40-per cent of Sight Record Sheets from the Peninsula feature Ld xant. It has been recorded everywhere, and the gaps will probably close up as the "holes" in our coverage get smaller. Curiously, it appears to be absent from the tops of Table Mountain and Muizenberg Hill, and the central plateau of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. It is the southernmost Conebush on the Cape Peninsula
