Proteaceae at Sipolilo Estates, Raffingora, Zimbabwe (cont.)Moth larva on Protea angolensis Northern Woodland Protea While we were masking P. angolensis trees with strips of rag - to save them from the axe in a paddock to be cleared of bush encroachment to improve grazing - we nearly tied down a monstrous, fat, brown, hairy caterpillar. Fortunately it loosened its grip and fell into the tall grass, never to be seen again. The caterpillar most suited the description of the larva of Carnegie's Emperor Embrasia carnegiei in Eliot Pinhey's book "Some well known African moths". Back PAN 8 |
