Visgat Conebush Visgatlangbeentjie - Leucadendron diemontianum

The Visgat Conebush is the rarest of the Sunshine-Conebushes, known from only about 250 plants. These occur at Visgat, Onderboskloof and Rosendal.

A few additional plants were recently discovered in the northern Cederberg by atlassers and at Dasklip Pass, so perhaps this species is far more common than previously thought.

More distributional data on this species are obviously required.

The Visgat Conebush can easily be recognised by its spindly growth and leaves that clasp the stem - this makes the plants appear leafless at first glance.

It is a member of the Sunshine Conebushes, all of which have flat seeds that are stored in cones on the plant.

The seeds are only released after the plant is killed by fire.
