IDM Cape Peninsula - Brown Bearded Sugarbush - Protea speciosa

A solid black dot indicates where the species is found.

Protea speciosa - Brown Bearded Sugarbush is the only multi-stemmed Bearded Sugarbush.

Historically hikers have confused the wide-leaf forms of this species with the Red Bearded Sugarbush, especially at Grootkop. However, its multi-stemmed habit and pink or cream heads distinguish it from other species. Like the King Sugarbush (another bole resprouter) Pr spec occurs at low densities in many areas. It occurs mainly at higher altitudes from Devils Peak to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve; where it occurs uncharacteristically on deep sandy soils.

October and December are poorly atlassed for this species.
