Win a Protea Atlas T-Shirt! - November Competition

All submitted entries to this competition were incorrect and there was thus no November 1999 winner.

The answer to this competition is Laurel-leaf Sugarbush - Protea laurifolia.

There was some suggestion that this protea was the Arid Pincuhion - Leucospermum calligerum.  This was a pretty good answer, but can be immediately discounted because Leucospermum calligerum occurs on the Potberg east of Cape Agulhas. The below distribution map shows no proteas in that area (Potberg).

Identify this member of the Protea family (see the distribution map) and win yourself a Protea Atlas T-shirt.

Atlassers have found the distribution of this protea family member to be as in the below map (The black dots indicate where the protea occurs). There are clues on this website that will help you, so browse to your heart's content. Alternatively, use the Sasol Proteas and the distribution maps provided in the book, to identify this protea.

Competition - November 1999

Every month a new protea (any member of the protea family) will feature.  The quiz will alternate between pictures, distribution maps and some historical/medicinal or horticultural feature of proteas.  Please feel free to enter every month. This month's prize is a cream, crew-neck T-shirt, with pocket emblazoned with the protea atlas logo.  Please specify your size (s,m,l,xl).
