Win a Protea Atlas T-Shirt! - September Competition

All entries to this competition were unfortunately wrong and there was therefore no winner. The correct answer is the Queen Sugarbush - Protea magnifica.

South Africa's national flower, the King Sugarbush - Protea cynaroides is not the correct answer to this competition.  Note that the King Sugarbush has most distinct stalks to its leaves whereas the protea in the below logo does not!

Have a look at the article on our National Emblem for more information.

Identify this member of the Protea family and win yourself a Protea Atlas T-shirt.

The below logo is used by our national sports teams on their clothing. Which protea is it? There are clues on this website that will help you, so browse to your heart's content. Alternatively, use the Sasol Proteas to identify this protea.

SA National Sports Emblem

Every month a new protea (any member of the protea family) will feature.  The quiz will alternate between pictures, distribution maps and some historical/medicinal or horticultural feature of proteas.  Please feel free to enter every month. This month's prize is a cream, crew-neck T-shirt, with pocket emblazoned with the protea atlas logo.  Please specify your size (s,m,l,xl).

Rules:

  1. Volunteers, Protea Atlassers and members of the public may enter. No Protea Atlas Project Staff Member or the Webmaster may enter this competition.
  2. A previous winner of this competition does not win a T-Shirt unless there is a two month break to his/her winning streak.  The previous winner may still submit an answer.
  3. Your single entry must reach the Protea Atlas office by 30 September 1999.  It should e-mailed to protea@nbict.nbi.ac.za
  4. Both the genus and the species name should be submitted. Please use either the  Official Common Names for Proteas or the botanical scientific name.
  5. The first correct entry drawn out of the hat is the winner.
  6. The results of the draw will be published at this web site.
  7. The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered in to.

Have a look at Last month's Competition, just for fun. (The answer is given).
