IDM Zimbabwe - Sickle-leaf Sugarbush - Protea petiolarisProtea petiolaris - Sickle-leaf Sugarbush A straggling tree to 8m tall. Leaves drooping 50-140 mm long, 10-30mm wide, stalk 0-20mm long formed by the long narrow base of the leaf. Involucral bracts green to red, outer series with a whitish bloom to hairless. Perianth hairless inside. High altitude Brachystegia woodland and montane grassland. Although this species is named after its long leaf stalks, the subspecies elegans does not have these, and this feature is not as apparent in Zimbabwe as to the north. A solid black dot indicates where the species is found. |
