Protea Atlas LogoThis is probably the last newsletter for which we are unable to provide detailed summary statistics on your data. Our database is up and running! Just how we will tackle this remains to be seen. We look forward to providing you with the more interesting aspects of your data.

It is with regret that we have to inform our atlassers that Leanne Gallard has resigned as atlas coordinator. This was owing to her being unhappy with the work conditions and resulted in virtually no recruiting, outings or lectures during this past quarter.

Our new Atlas Coordinator is Chris Berens. He assumed his duties on 18 March. Hopefully, he will meet all atlassers over the next few weeks on walks and talks. Please feel free to contact him if you have any queries or suggestions: his job is to make sure that you learn and enjoy atlassing and proteas!

Our programme of events is detailed opposite. These are specifically for atlassers who wish to learn their proteas, get to know them better, or become more proficient at atlassing. Naturally, we will also discuss ecology, conservation and other plants on these excursions, as well as address any queries, bugbears or problems you may have with regard to atlassing, botany or conservation. The programme does not detail walks or talks geared towards specific societies. Should you be a member of any biological or conservation orientated society, please consult your newsletters for details. Should we appear to have overlooked any society, please contact Chris and get him to rectify the oversight immediately.

Should you wish to contact us after hours, we have installed an answering machine. We have already been amazed at the number of atlassers calling in the evenings when the office is unmanned, so the service seems to be working well. Our answering machine seems to be having an affair with Peter Dirk-Uys's machine at present, but hopefully we will put an end to this promptly, get out of the marshy ground, and all will look rosy.
