A solid black dot indicates where the species is found. Leucospermum
innovans - Transkei Pincushion is an erect, multi-stemmed shrub up to 1 m tall, with
slender (5 mm diameter) stems. The leaves are very broadly wedge-shaped to obovate, with a
distinct stalk. The petal tube is swollen at the base, but narrow at the top.
LS INNO occurs near Lusikisiki and Port Shepstone. The herbarium record from north of
Durban is certainly Leucospermum gerrardii (see triangle on map for that
species).
We have only 3 records for this species in KwaZulu-Natal. More records mapping the
details of its distribution would be appreciated. It is suggested that this species is
being heavily impacted by tea plantations in Pondoland. Remaining populations should be
documented as soon as possible. |
